Phyllis Marie (nee. Stables) Evans, 95, of Livonia, died March 29, 2022, surrounded by her family and loved ones after a long illness. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family.

Phyllis was born June 13, 1926 in Detroit, a daughter of Henry P. Stables and Eglentine Gregory (Karl) Sanford. She graduated from Dearborn High School.

Phyllis married Herman F. Evans on September 11, 1948 in Dearborn at the First Baptist church. Herman predeceased her on March 20, 1998, just short of 50 years of marriage.

Phyllis loved to swim, dance, and travel (although she hated planes). She was dedicated to helping others. She was a Girl Scout for over 25 years. Her favorite job was as a sewing instructor for the Singer Sewing company. Phyllis volunteered with individuals living with Alzheimer’s disease. She also was actively involved in the Michigan Wolverine Chapter of the American Ex-Prisoners of War. Phyllis was a long-time member of Aldersgate United Methodist church in Redford and frequent attendee of Ward Presbyterian church in Northville.

She is survived by her loving family: her daughters, Claudia Braden, Denise (Michael) Zajac, and Lee Evans; five grandsons, Jared, Jason (Amy), and Justyn (Gretchen) Zajac, and Alex and David Braden; eight great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to her husband, Phyllis was preceded in death by her sisters, Vivian Olmsted, Beatrice Dole, and Hilda Areeda.

Family and friends will be received from 10:00 am until the time of the funeral service at 11:00 am at Manns Family Funeral Home, 17000 Middlebelt (south of Six Mile), Livonia 48154.

Interment will be in Acacia Park Cemetery, Beverly Hills, Mich.
