Obituary for Joel Gerard Schommer

It is with great sorrow that the family of Joel Gerard Schommer (Joey), 64, of Livonia, Michigan, announces his passing on July 7, 2022.

Joel was born in Detroit on September 10, 1957, to Eugene and Dolores. He graduated from Clarenceville High School and continued on to receive a degree in Automotive Service Technology from Motech.

Joel was married to Deb on July 11,1981; they were married 41 years. Their twins, Chris and Kimmy, were born four years later. Joel was a hard-working family man. He was a strong, kind, loving and supportive husband, father, and grandfather. His knowledge and guidance were the foundation of his family.

Joel worked as a master certified auto mechanic for 47 years, most recently for North Brothers Ford. He earned and maintained his State of Michigan Certification as Master Automotive Technician, as well as a Master Certification from Ford Motor Company. Besides spending time with his family, Joel enjoyed cars and trucks, NASCAR, and fishing. He was Proud to be an American.

Joel is survived by his wife, Deborah, son, Christopher (Angela), daughter, Kimberly (Tim), grandson, Joel, brother, Philip (Julie), grand-dogs, Moki and Skip, and many other family and friends.

Joel is preceded in death by his father, Eugene, his mother, Dolores, and sister, Kathleen.

The visitation will be held Friday, July 15th from 2:00 - 8:00 pm with a Prayer Service at 7:00 pm at Manns Family Funeral Home, 17000 Middlebelt, Livonia 48154.

Joel will be In-State for final visiting on Saturday, July 16th from 9:00 until the time of mass at 9:30 am at St. Priscilla Catholic Church, 19120 Purlingbrook, Livonia 48152.
